Every time I travel to Bologna (mainly for the Bologna Children’s book fair), I’m delighted with the bright city colours.
Since 2011 I’ve been collecting pictures showing the care people take for their houses and buildings.
I see these as a visible mending of the walls. As if the colours and layers of paint would suggest a building’s skin, revealing past lives and stories with their sunburns, tattoos, wrinkles, scars, and wounds, all wrapped up in a make-up that cannot take away the layers and textures behind, unveiling past lives.
This year, I have started a project called “Bologna’s skin”. I’d like to publish a book with an incredible palette showing this wonderful “make-up”.
